Vehicle Length & Width regulations
There are regulations in place for the width and length a vehicle can be. The reason for this is that the road infrastructure is build around these specifications. Eg Tunnel & bridge height. One way road width. Thus your car with its load should be able to safely travel on these roads without causing an accident or damage to property
Lateral dimensions of the load (Side dimentions)
- 20 cm to the sides: A maximum of 20 cm of the load can protrude from the sidewalls.
- Total width 260 cm: A maximum of 260 cm in total width is permissible (2.6 m).
Correct load
- The following load does not exceed a width of 260 cm, but the load protrudes 30 cm to the right side and 10 cm to the left (Just because the load is at an angle does not make it legal), thus this load is prohibited.
Incorrect load
- The following load does not exceed a width of 260 cm, but the load protrudes 40 cm to the right side, making this prohibited.
Incorrect load
- The following car does not have a load, but the vehicle is larger then 260 cm. Thus this vehicle is prohibited. There are exception to this and you can apply for permission at the city council to temporarily drive a larger vehicle on a public road (Eg: Construction vehicle, Over sized vehicle)
Incorrect load
Length of a vehicle
- The total length may be a maximum 24 metres
- Exception: 25.25 metres is permitted if certain specific requirements are fulfilled.
Marking protruding load with flags or lights
When loading your car with material that might protrude it is good to consider when to mark the item so that other motorists can see the item clearly
Mark the load in the following conditions
-
Forward protruding: Mark the load.
- Exception: If the load is protruding less then 1 meter you dont have to mark it
- Backward protruding: If the load is protruding by more then 1 meter you have to mark it
- Total length: The total vehicle length including the load must not exceed 24 meters
- Day time: Use flags (red, yellow or colorful color). Attach it to the front and rear of the load
-
Night time:
