Velocitization

This effect happens when you have driven for a long time on a road that does not have many objects next to the side of the road to indicate how fast you are driving. Usually a large open field that continues for many kilometers. Once you turn off from the main road an encounter your first intersection you might feel you are driving not so fast and wont use the break at all. This is when you misjudge the speed at which you are driving and you can cause an accident by breaking to late

Risk is increased by the following

  • Wide roads
  • Little distraction next to the road
  • Quiet cars (little road noise from the wheels or engine)
  • Driving for a long time at a high steady pace
