Overview
Sweden has a zero tolerance policy for substances classified as narcotics. Narcotics are defined as substances that are both illegal, legal, and prescription drugs. Drugs can last a long time in the bloodstream. So even if you did do drugs 2 weeks ago it can still be traced in the blood stream 2 months afterwards
Different type of drugs
Not all drug have the same effect. There are three different major groups of drugs
- Stimulants: Stimulants cause hyperactivity and an increased belief in your ability to operate a vehicle. The stimulant suppress tiredness thus you dont know that you are tired , which result that you can black out at any moment.
Drug types: Cocaine and amphetamine - Sedatives: Work on different parts of the brain and can cause you to have difficulty to concentrate
Drug type: Heroin, opium and morphine. - Hallucinogens: These drugs work on your visual receptiors and endorphine senapsis. They cause hallucinations, disorientation and impairs judgement.
Drug types: LSD and Acid.
Law on narcotics whilst driving
- Zero tolerance
- No trace of drugs may be found in your blood stream
- If caugth under the influence of narcotics drunk driving law applies
Law on prescribe medication whilst driving
- Basic rule is: If the medicine makes you tired or impacts you in any way other then being fully alert and attentive you should not drive whilst under the influence
- Narcotic substances can be legal if they have been prescribed by a doctor.
- If you did cause an accident , you will be prosecuted under the same law as drunk driving. Thus its always your responsibility to ensure you are able to safely drive a car
