Harmful particles and molecules

The following table show each chemical particle and the impact it has on our environment. Everytime a car is switched on these particles are emitted. Consider reducing theses particles as much as possible

Particle / Molecule Impact
Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Greenhouse gas
  • This molecule has the greatest effect on greenhouse effect
  • Fossil fuel combustion releases CO2 into the air
Carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Prevents oxygen to be absorbed by bloodcells
  • Tiredness
  • Lethal in great amounts
  • Carbon monoxide can be reduced by using a catalytic converter
Hydrocarbons (HC)
  • Can cause cancer
  • Have the ability to change and alter genetic and biological material
  • Contributes to tropospheric ozone
Nitric oxide (NOx)
  • Increases acidification of soil
  • Increases eutrophication of lakes
  • Increases tropospheric ozone
  • Have the ability to change and alter genetic and biological material
  • Impact humans airways

Environmental Impact Terminology

The following table showcase the environmental impact of dangerous particles when it has gone out of control.

Term Impact
Tropospheric ozone
  • Ozone (O3) that forms close to the ground. This is harmful to plants and biological life
  • Breathing Ozone can create health problems (Chest pain, coughing, throat irritation, and congestion)
Eutrophication
  • Lake turns green because of too much nutrients
  • Dangerouse algal blooms
  • Lake get covered in green algal
  • Nitrix oxide (NOx) and phosphorus (P) is mainly responsible (Comes from vehicle exhaust)
Acidification
  • Freshwater acidification is primarily caused by phosphorus (P) ,sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)
  • Changes in pH levels in the lake. If the change is to big the water become acidic
  • Impacts all water sources lakes, rivers, ocean and forests
Soot and dangerous particle from vehicles
  • A black powdery or flaky substance consisting largely of amorphous carbon, produced by the incomplete burning of fossil fuel.
  • Affects the airways
  • Cause cancer
Noise pollution
  • Noise pollution and ultra sound is created by vehicles and roads
  • Cause underlining health problems
